DEFECT DIAGNOSIS

Leather defects come in all shapes and sizes, and can be attributable to a wide range of issues including:

  1. The live animal (due to genetic problems, disease, poor animal husbandry, inhospitable weather conditions, etc.).
  2. Operations in the meat packing facility (harsh flaying, delayed cure, inadequate cure, or inappropriate storage or transport conditions).
  3. Beamhouse processing faults (a wide range of damaging process conditions are possible prior to tanning).
  4. Problems during tanning, retanning, dyeing, fatliquoring or drying.
  5. Inadequate fungicide treatment, allowing mold growth.
  6. Finish formulation inadequacies.
  7. Finish application problems (roller coater or spray machine set-up).
  8. Final product design flaws.
  9. Lack of care or harsh usage conditions by the customer.
